What actually matters in Saudi Arabia
A generator brand that performs well in Europe or the US doesn't automatically perform well here. Saudi Arabia's conditions are specific: ambient temperatures that push engines to run hot for 10-12+ hours a day, long duty cycles for commercial and industrial sites, and — just as important — whether a local technician can actually get spare parts and service the unit without a long wait or import delay.
That combination is why some globally famous brands are a poor fit here, even though they're excellent choices elsewhere.
Kubota — proven in the desert, up to 50 kVA
Kubota is a Japanese engine brand, manufactured in Japan, known for compact, fuel-efficient, and highly reliable diesel engines. It is thoroughly tested and proven for reliable performance in desert heat — the reason we only offer it up to 50 kVA prime is that Kubota simply doesn't manufacture diesel generator engines above that range, not a limitation in heat tolerance.
- ✓Power range: 11 to 50 kVA prime
- ✓Known for low fuel consumption and quiet operation
- ✓Rare failure rate — genuine spare parts are stocked by Kubota agencies in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah, though demand for parts beyond routine consumables is low precisely because the engine rarely needs them
- ✓Suited for any application within its power range, from villas to commercial sites
John Deere — commercial & industrial, 33.5 to 320 kVA
John Deere diesel engines are built for durability under demanding heavy-load use, manufactured in France for the smaller engines and in the USA for 290 kVA and above. They cover a wide power band, making them a natural fit for larger commercial buildings and industrial sites.
- ✓Power range: 33.5 to 320 kVA prime
- ✓Strong performance under heavy-load operation
- ✓Suited for hospitals, hotels, factories, and large warehouses
- ✓Backed by an established parts and service network in Saudi Arabia
Cummins — critical & heavy-duty power, 54 to 1000 kVA
Cummins is one of the most recognized diesel engine names worldwide, manufactured across three factories — USA, India, and China — with a reputation built specifically around demanding, mission-critical applications.
- ✓Power range: 54 to 1000 kVA prime
- ✓Engineered for high reliability under heavy-duty operation
- ✓Well suited for telecom, healthcare, and critical commercial infrastructure
- ✓Strong global parts network, including in Saudi Arabia
Perkins — large-scale & factory power, 11 to 1000 kVA
Perkins is a British engine manufacturer with over a century of experience, particularly strong in large-capacity industrial installations.
- ✓Power range: 11 to 1000 kVA prime
- ✓Excellent fit for large factories, major construction sites, and heavy industrial installations
- ✓Local technicians are well experienced servicing Perkins, with spare parts available in the Saudi market
- ✓Genuine spare parts available through established agencies in the Kingdom
Other global brands — why they're less common here
Several other engine brands are well known internationally but are less common in the Saudi market specifically. This isn't a knock on their engineering — it's about fit for local conditions:
- ✓Caterpillar — a respected global brand, but in Saudi Arabia it typically carries a higher purchase price and higher spare parts cost
- ✓Kohler (كوهلر) and Volvo Penta — well regarded in markets with milder climates, but less established locally for continuous high-heat operation, with a thinner local spare parts and service network in the Kingdom
- ✓Generac — primarily known for residential standby use in North America, largely unknown and not requested in the Saudi market
- ✓Chinese engine brands (various) — often lower upfront cost, but local technicians are typically less familiar with servicing them, spare parts are harder to source quickly, long-duty-cycle reliability in extreme heat tends to be a bigger concern, and resale value drops off much faster than the brands above
How to choose
The right brand depends on your load profile and how many hours a day the generator will actually run:
- ✓Villa or small shop, up to 50 kVA → Kubota
- ✓Commercial building or mid-size facility, regular use → John Deere
- ✓Critical infrastructure, healthcare, telecom → Cummins (USA-made), Perkins, or Caterpillar
- ✓Large factory or major industrial site → Cummins, Perkins, or Caterpillar
Power Systems supplies Kubota, John Deere, Cummins, and Perkins generators across Saudi Arabia — every unit fitted standard with a Leroy Somer (Europe) alternator and a DSE (UK) control panel.
